Swimsuits, bikinis, shorts and trunks; how to care for what you wear in your hot tub.
The perfect swimsuit can be hard to find…
If you are going to wear it in your spa, you need to look after it.
For the men and boys, shorts and trunks aren’t that big a deal. Of course you get some that are their ‘favourites’ but in the main they are all much of a much-ness.
Ladies, however, can search long and hard for the perfect swimsuit. Not just for one that actually fits in all the right places but might even make all those ‘right places’ look their best.
And let’s be honest, they aren’t exactly cheap either.
So it makes sense to look after that perfect swimsuit and keep it looking lovely for as long as possible.
So how do you do that?
Hot tubs are good for you but hard on your swimsuit.
The chlorine in your spa keeps the water crystal clear and clean but it is also hard on the fabric of your bikini or swimsuit. There are ways of looking after it though.
Before you wear your new swimsuit for the first time soak it in vinegar.
This might sound a little strange but soaking in a fairly weak solution of vinegar and water will help prevent the colour from fading. Put four tablespoons vinegar in a gallon of water and let it soak for half an hour, then give it a good rinse in cold water.
Rinse your swimsuit in water before and after each hot tub session. Getting the suit wet before you go in the tub means that the fabric will absorb less chlorine and rinsing it out afterwards get rid of what little has been absorbed.
The chemicals in your spa can not only fade the colours but also weaken the fabric.
Don’t throw your swimsuit into the washing machine. Washers and dryers will weaken the fabric as well so just rinse your swimsuit through by hand after each bathing session and then hang it up to dry naturally.
What other options are there?
You can, of course, buy a cheap suit for the hot tub and save your best swimsuit for, well ‘best’.
If you do, avoid a ‘full suit’ as they tend to trap the air and, as you probably know, that isn’t a good look.
The other option is to wear your birthday suit. If your tub is sheltered away from anyone else’s view and anyone you are sharing the tub with has no objections, then hot tubbing ‘au natural’ is a good way to go.
